Polresta Ensures Legal Process Continues, Assault Suspect Handed Over to Prosecutors

JAYAPURA, PAPUA – Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit (Sat Reskrim) of the Jayapura City Police (Polresta Jayapura Kota) handed over a suspect and evidence in an alleged assault case to the Public Prosecutor (JPU) at the Jayapura District Attorney’s Office on Friday (18 September 2026).

Jayapura City Police Chief Kombes Pol Fredrickus W. A. Maclarimboen, S.I.K., M.H., CPHR, through the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Alamsyah Ali, S.H., M.H., explained that the suspect, identified by the initials YM (25), was handed over after investigators completed the investigation into an alleged assault as stipulated under Article 466 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP).

“The handover of the suspect and evidence was carried out at the Jayapura District Attorney’s Office as a follow-up to the completion of the case from the investigation stage to the prosecution stage. Investigators handed over the suspect along with several pieces of evidence related to the case to be further processed by the Public Prosecutor in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit.

He further explained that the incident began when the victim was inside a room at a house on Jalan Setiapura II, Numbay Village, South Jayapura District, Jayapura City.

“The suspect then allegedly assaulted the victim by punching and kicking the victim and using an object in the form of a broom, causing the victim to suffer injuries. After the incident, the victim left the room and told a witness about what had happened. The witness subsequently reported the incident to the police for legal processing,” explained the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit.

During the investigation, officers also secured several pieces of evidence, including one coconut-fiber broom and several items of clothing related to the case.

The Jayapura City Police, through its Criminal Investigation Unit, reaffirmed its commitment to providing professional and humane law-enforcement services and ensuring that every public report is processed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
