Jakarta – Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Wakapolri), Commissioner General of Police Prof. Dr. Dedi Prasetyo, S.H., M.Hum., M.Si., M.M., extended his congratulations and appreciation to Polri personnel who contributed to the Indonesian Soft Tennis Team’s medal-winning performance at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
Indonesia’s Men’s Team Soft Tennis squad secured a bronze medal for the nation after competing through the group stage and semifinal at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Nagoya on Sunday (20/9). The achievement marked Indonesia’s third medal at the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games.
“Congratulations on this valuable medal. This achievement is a source of pride for Indonesia and for the Indonesian National Police. The Polri personnel who strengthened the team have demonstrated fighting spirit, discipline, and dedication in representing the Red and White on the Asian stage,” said Deputy Chief of Police Dedi from Jakarta on Sunday (20/9).
According to the Deputy Chief of Police, the achievement demonstrates that Polri personnel can contribute to the nation not only through their duties in law enforcement, but also through achievements in the field of sports.
Insp. Gen. Awal Personally Accompanies the Team’s Journey
Chairman of the Indonesian Soft Tennis Association (PP PESTI), Inspector General of Police Dr. Awal Chairuddin, S.I.K., S.H., M.H., also personally accompanied the Indonesian Soft Tennis contingent throughout its campaign in Nagoya.
Indonesia was drawn into Group B alongside Nepal and South Korea. In their opening match on Friday (18/9), Indonesia’s Men’s Team immediately demonstrated a strong performance by defeating Nepal 3–0.
Men’s doubles pair Tio Hutauruk/Fernando Sanger opened Indonesia’s winning campaign by defeating the Nepalese pair 5–0. The second point was secured by Bagus Pradewa, who won the men’s singles match 4–0.
In their second match, Indonesia faced South Korea. In a closely contested encounter, Indonesia lost narrowly 1–2. However, Tio Hutauruk/Fernando Sanger secured one victory with a 3–2 scoreline. The result sent Indonesia through to the quarterfinals as Group B runners-up.
In the quarterfinals, held on the same day, Indonesia produced a convincing performance by defeating India 2–0. Tio Hutauruk/Fernando Sanger once again contributed a victory after defeating the Indian pair 5–2. The win was then sealed by Bagus Angga Boedy Pradewa in the men’s singles event.
Indonesia’s journey continued into the semifinals on Sunday (20/9). Facing hosts Japan, Indonesia had to concede a 0–2 defeat. The result secured the bronze medal for Indonesia’s Men’s Team Soft Tennis squad.
“The team’s journey has been extraordinary. I personally accompanied the athletes from the beginning of the competition through the semifinals. They demonstrated tremendous fighting spirit, discipline, and teamwork. This medal is the result of the hard work of all the athletes, coaches, officials, and the support of various parties,” said Inspector General Awal.
Appreciation for Polri’s Full Support
Inspector General Awal also expressed his gratitude for the full support provided by Polri through the Polri Sports Committee (KOP), which supported the Indonesian Soft Tennis contingent throughout its preparation and competition at the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games.
“Thank you for the full support from Polri through the Polri Sports Committee. This support has provided strength and motivation for the athletes throughout their preparations and competition at the Asian Games. This medal is the result of the hard work, discipline, teamwork, and fighting spirit of all the athletes and coaching staff,” he said.
The Polri Sports Committee is part of Polri’s efforts to foster and develop the sporting potential of its personnel, including providing support to high-achieving personnel who represent Indonesia in national and international competitions.
Deputy Chief of Police Dedi Prasetyo also expressed his appreciation for the contribution of Polri personnel who became part of Indonesia’s Soft Tennis Team in Nagoya.
“When Polri personnel compete while representing Indonesia, they also carry the spirit of service and the pride of the institution. Polri will continue to support personnel who achieve outstanding results and contribute to the nation through sports,” the Deputy Chief of Police emphasized.
The Fight Continues in the Individual Events
Following the completion of the team event, Indonesia’s Soft Tennis campaign is not yet over. The athletes will compete again in the men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles events.
Deputy Chief of Police Dedi Prasetyo urged the athletes to use their team-event achievement as motivation and confidence for the upcoming competitions.
“The journey is not over yet. Use this team achievement as a strong source of confidence. Stay focused, fight tirelessly, and continue striving for as many gold medals as possible in the individual events in Nagoya this year for the honor of the Red and White,” said the Deputy Chief of Police.
The Indonesian Soft Tennis contingent consists of five male athletes: Tio Juliando Hutauruk, Fernando Sanger, Bagus Angga Boedy Pradewa, Muhammad Reza Falevi, and Rizky Zammy Febrian Laluyan, along with two female athletes, Siti Nur Arasy and Allif Nafiiah.
With the medal secured in the team event, the Indonesian Soft Tennis Team now turns its attention to the individual events with the same determination to once again bring pride to Indonesia at the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games.
