JAKARTA – Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin inspected Sumenep Park on Jalan Dukuh Atas, Menteng Subdistrict, Menteng District, on Friday morning (September 18, 2026).
During the visit, Arifin instructed the Central Jakarta Parks and Urban Forestry Sub-Department (Sudin Tamhut) to immediately prepare a master plan for the revitalization of Sumenep Park.
“This step is being taken to harmonize the park’s development with the management of the Gresik River drainage channel, while involving various relevant regional government agencies to create a natural, green, and functional public space for the community,” Arifin said.
He added that the revitalization would not focus solely on landscaping and park facilities, but would also require cross-sector collaboration, given that the park directly borders the Gresik River waterway.
Arifin explained that revitalizing the park would require a significant budget. Therefore, a coordination meeting would need to be held to discuss the allocation of funding from each relevant regional government agency.
“We want this place to attract many visitors, provide a space where children can play, and allow the community to enjoy a well-organized, natural park that is free from environmental problems,” he said.
Responding to the directive, Head of the Central Jakarta Parks and Urban Forestry Sub-Department, Mila Ananda, explained that Sumenep Park is one of the priority revitalization projects.
“In 2026, we are currently at the ‘X-Minus 1’ stage, which involves developing the initial concept. Initially, the concept was planned to cover only the area from the entrance near Jalan Sudirman to the Car Free Day (CFD) area due to budget limitations,” she explained.
However, Mila added that, in response to the Mayor’s concern that the development should be carried out comprehensively, the Central Jakarta Parks and Urban Forestry Sub-Department is committed to expanding the design coverage to the ornamental fish sales center (CPG) at the end of the park.
“We will make every effort to develop a concept that is inline with and complements the overall theme of the park. The overall layout will not change drastically because the area stretches along the waterway, but there will be aesthetic improvements and additional facilities and infrastructure,” Mila said.
Mila further explained that the main physical development priority scheduled for 2027 will be the revitalization of the bridge that has become an iconic feature of the park. The bridge’s structure will be strengthened and beautified, while additional seating facilities will be provided for nearby office workers who wish to take a break.
In addition, the pedestrian areas will be coordinated in terms of color with the park’s overall theme through coordination with the Public Works and Highways Sub-Department (Sudin Bina Marga), although no structural changes to the roadway are planned.
“This revitalization will also involve synchronization with other agencies. The Central Jakarta Parks and Urban Forestry Sub-Department will coordinate with the Water Resources Sub-Department (Sudin SDA) regarding plans to revitalize the retaining wall and the facilities of the Water Agency’s Cleaning Management Unit (UPK). We will also adjust the placement of several Water Agency structures so that they form a harmonious visual unity,” she said.
